Photo Essay: A day in the life of a Macy's Parade marching band
5:39 AMAfter spending some time resting on the buses, Dobyns-Bennett band members are having breakfast at Planet Hollywood in Times Square.
6:15 AMSome band members are chatting and enjoying the atmosphere of Planet Hollywood, while other students are catching up on sleep.
6:36 AMA significant crowd has already gathered in Times Square. People are standing 5-10 deep in some of the prime viewing areas.
6:41 AMWith breakfast complete but the sky still dark, Dobyns-Bennett has reloaded the buses for the drive to the lineup area.
7:29 AMNow daylight and with the temperature rising, Dobyns-Bennett unloads near Central Park West. During the ride, band booster Claire McKissick made calls to arrange
for some instrument repair and upon arrival a band parent was ready with the needed parts.
7:37 AMTeam spirit is high as all the bands converge on the lineup area. Dobyns-Bennett students exchange high-fives with members from Macy's Great American Marching Band.
7:53 AMThe Homestead H.S. (Cupertino, California) color guard took advantage of a photo op in the parade staging area along Central Park West.
7:55 AMNot far from Homestead's lineup position, Sesame Street Muppets Rosita, Zoe and Elmo prepare for a live interview on CNN.
8:17 AMAmerican Idol winner Scotty McCreery arrives in the staging area.
8:20 AMThese young band fans (and future band members!) wanted their picture taken next to Macy's Great American Marching Band.
8:35 AMWGI operations director Bart Woodley leads Macy's Great American Marching Band color guard in warmup.
8:55 AMHomestead is in position on the street as the official parade start is now just five minutes away.
