Instruments A Comin' to raise funds for New Orleans school band programs

Annual Tipitina's Foundation event and battle of the bands is April 26

Tipitina's Foundation logo NEW ORLEANS, April 22, 2010 — The Tipitina's Foundation proudly announces its 9th Annual "Instruments A Comin'" benefit concert on Monday, April 26, 2010, at the original Tipitina's Uptown music venue (501 Napoleon Ave., New Orleans).

The outdoor festival kicks off at 5 PM with an epic battle of marching bands, followed by hours of entertainment, food, local arts and crafts, and a silent auction. An indoor concert begins at 8 PM.

Battle of the bands participants include the St. Augustine Marching 100, O. Perry Walker H.S. Charger Marching Band, and McDonogh 35 H.S. Roneagle Marching Band.

Performers taking the stage for the concert inside the venue will include Galactic, Rebirth Brass Band, Trombone Shorty, Fred LeBlanc, Soul Rebels and many more. This year's Walk of Fame inductees are Harry Connick, Jr. and Rockin' Dopsie, Jr.

The Rabouin H.S. Band, which has received instruments from Tipitina's Foundation, performed at Instruments A Comin' in 2009. The mission of the Tipitina's Foundation is to support Louisiana and New Orleans' irreplaceable music community and preserve their unique musical cultures. The foundation is a proactive advocate for saving music programs in schools and continues to take a leadership role in addressing these needs. Proceeds from past Instruments A Comin' events have provided more than $2.2 million in musical instruments that are now being used in 60 New Orleans-area schools.

General admission and VIP tickets are now available. A VIP ticket includes complimentary food from some of New Orleans' great restaurants, as well as access to the Tchoup House. All proceeds benefit the Tipitina's Foundation.
