The Pittsfield 4th of July Parade takes place in the heart of the beautiful Berkshires of western Massachusetts. The Berkshires are known for outdoor activities, scenic beauty and thriving performing arts institutions. Annual festivals include the Boston Symphony Orchestra's residency at Lenox's Tanglewood Music Center, Berkshire Theater Festival and Barrington Stage where renowned musicians and actors perform.
This parade has a historic reputation dating back to 1801, when the procession consisted of Revolutionary War survivors, patriots, politicians, and horse-drawn carriages. Over the years, the non-profit Pittsfield 4th of July Parade Committee, Inc. has grown in spirit and determination, and along with it, the parade has grown in quality and popularity. The parade has been recognized by USA Today as one of the best 4th of July Parades in the country.
Each year, more than 50,000 spectators enjoy the sights and sounds of marching bands, drum corps, giant parade balloons, creative floats, and unique entertainment entries.
The parade travels a 1.5-mile route through historic downtown Pittsfield. The route begins at the intersection of South and East/West Housantonic Streets, heads north up South Street through Park Square,
then continues up North Street to Wahconah Street before ending at Wahconah Park.
The parade is televised on Pittsfield Community Television and streamed online as well.
