The 2012 edition of the San Diego Veterans Day Parade promises to be extra special, with a new route through San Diego's historic Gaslamp District, expanded performance opportunities for marching bands, and Grand Marshal Chuck Yeager.
Marching bands can participate in multiple performances saluting America's Veterans over Veterans Day weekend. The two-day music program kicks off on Sunday, November 11, with The Band of Pride Tribute a mass band rally featuring all
the student performers participating in the San Diego Veterans Day Parade. Bands will showcase their talents on the flight deck of The U.S.S. Midway, the nation's West Coast symbol of American strength, freedom and peace. All arrangements are provided, including
a guest conductor, performance shirts and an audience. After the performance, band members are treated to a box lunch aboard the ship and have time for a self-guided tour of The U.S.S. Midway.
On Monday, November 12, the streets of the historic Gaslamp District will come alive when marching bands perform to enthusiastic crowds in the San Diego Veterans Day Parade.
In 2012 the parade is commemorating the 65th anniversary of the breaking of the sound barrier and Maj. Gen. Charles (Chuck) Elwood Yeager is scheduled to be on hand to serve as the grand marshal.
Chuck Yeager was the first pilot to travel faster than the speed of sound, breaking the sound barrier on October 14, 1947 flying the
experimental Bell X-1 at Mach 1 at an altitude of 45,000 ft. Yeager's popularity soared in the 1980s when he was prominently featured in the movie, "The Right Stuff."

All bands are invited to a pre-parade band competition judged by members of the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association. Trophies are awarded for the top bands (Class A and Class B), drum majors, auxiliary units and overall sweepstakes.
NYC Group Tours, the official marching band and youth sponsor of The Band of Pride Tribute and The San Diego Veterans Day Parade, invites bands to apply to participate in an extraordinary event in one of the
most beautiful cities in America The San Diego Veterans Day Parade.
• Awards Dinner Dance Cruise As the sun sets on parade day, marching band students enjoy a fun-filled awards dinner dance cruise around San Diego Bay, providing dazzling views of the city by night.
